Ghana, Nigeria In Cricket Final

Ghana will face Nigeria in an anticipated grand finale of the North-West Africa Cricket tournament this morning at the 22 July Square in Banjul after both teams won their respective semi finals yesterday.

The Ghanaians defeated hosts, The Gambia, by 167 runs in the semi-finals. In their innings, the Ghanaians batted 281 runs all out in 50 overs and this was powered by batsmen like Samson Awiah, Francis Bakiweyem and Peter Ananya, who had one of their best games.

The Gambians returned their innings determined to scale the 281 target set by Ghana but highly-focused fielding from Mark Bawa, Abdul Karim Sumaila, Lawrence Ahhadzi Kofi Anafie, Rufuss Ntiamoah and excellent bowling by Kofi Bagabena and Peter Ananya ensured that the home team were bowled out after managing to score a meagre 94 runs in only 27n overs.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic moments after the victory, Ghana's Coach Philip Ras Bingi Taylor, said it was time for Ghana to avenge the defeat handed them by Nigeria.
