2021 Qualifying AFCON Fixtures

The AFCON qualifying fixtures for the 2021 campaign were recently completed this month. Stuart Baxter's team; Bafana Bafana were drawn in Group C. The other members of the group include; Sudan and Ghana. The other member of the group will be the winner for the match between Sao Time Principe and Mauritius. However, South Africa's biggest challenge will be the the Black Stars from Ghana, who are the favorites in the group.

The last time the two teams clashed was during the 2015 AFCON held in Equatorial Guinea. Ghana lost 2-1 to the South Africans. Although Ghana is one of the most dynamic football teams in Africa Bafana Bafana made quite an impression during this year's edition. They were able to beat the host nation, Egypt, in the last 16. The South Africans made it to the quarter-finals. However, they were defeated by Tunisia 5-4 during a penalty shootout after the match ended 1-1 during regular time.

The match between Ghana and Bafana Bafana will be the toughest that the latter will face. South Africa has been ranked position 72 in the world rankings while Ghana is position 50. However, they are lucky enough they have not been placed with other tougher teams.

The 2021 AFCON Cup will be held in Cameroon. There is a total of 12 groups, each consisting of four teams. There are going to be four matches during the preliminary rounds after that the winners will enter the group stages.

The Desert Foxes who are the winners of the 2019 AFCON have been placed in Group H. They will be facing Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Zambia. Algeria will have to face tough travel time because there are no travel links between their country and that of their opponents. However, they have the upper hand against their opponents. For example, Zimbabwe did not participate in the 2019 AFCON, Zambia did not qualify, and Botswana only took off one point from their previous campaign.

The second runner's ups; Senegal do not have a tedious travel plan. They are in Group 1 facing Congo Brazzaville, eSwatini and Guinea Bissau.

Although the host nation Cameroon has an automatic qualification, they will be playing in a competitive match.
