I am disappointed with captains’ boycott of NC meeting - PFAG PRO

The Player Relations Officer for the Professional Football Association of Ghana (PFAG), Yussif Chibsah, has expressed his disappointment with the absence of more than half of captains of Ghana Premier League clubs at Monday’s meeting with the Normalisation Committee.

The Committee who have been given the mandate to cleanse Ghana football invited all various club captains to deliberate on the plight of local footballers was unfortunate.

However, several captains failed to show up at the meeting on Monday.

The meeting brought together captains of women’s football teams, Division One and Premier League clubs.

Only seven captains of the 16 Premier League clubs, however, attended the event.

“I’m disappointed the others didn’t turn up” Yussif Chibsah, one of Ghana’s youngest and finest football administrators told Asempa Sports on Tuesday.

“We discussed salaries, we discussed standard contracts” and issues that border on player welfare, said Chibsah as he opened up on what transpired.

“Players sign contracts but they don’t receive copies of their contracts. In some cases, details of contracts the players have, differ from what is at the clubs’ secretariats.

"Players will sign two-year contracts but clubs’ copies of contracts will have either three or four years.

On interventions proposed by the PFAG at the meeting, to deal with the open secret that, most Ghanaian clubs have been ripping their players off when it comes to contracts, Chibsah explained the PFAG’s position, that there should be standardised contracts which should be made public.

“We suggested standard contracts; to be [published] on the FA website so that we will all use. The difference will be the details of the contracts.

"The players will have copies of the contracts and we will also have copies. It’s not a bad idea if the PFAG have contracts of players,” he argued.

According to Yussif Chibsah, the Chairman of the Normalisation Committee, Dr Kofi Amoah, was pleased with developments at the meeting and pledged more engagements and further encouraged the PFAG to work to guarantee the salaries of players.

In the view of Chibsah, the situation regarding players’ salaries would only improve when clubs have adequate finance.
