Ghana international Kevin Prince Boateng was given his marching orders on the 65th minute after enduring a disappointing afternoon against an in-form Atletico Madrid side.
Boateng has been a massive hit since signing on in the summer but would feel the weight of this defeat on his shoulders after his sending off.
The former AC Milan and former Schalke man was booked earlier on in the game but was finally sent for an early shower on the 65th minute.
He is now expected to miss the game against Sporting Gijon and hope to be ready for the big one against Barcelona the following week.
Fellow Ghana international Thomas Partey climbed off the bench to score his first goal of the season in the game.
