Krowor involves traditional authorities in coronavirus fight

The Krowor Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region is involving chiefs and traditional authorities as well as Imams in Zongos in the catchment area to help in the fight against spread of the coronavirus.

The Assembly believes traditional leaders have control over their subjects and as such their involvement in the education and the enforcement of the protocols and directives can help in halting the spread of the virus.

“There is a lot of discipline when the king talks. There is a lot of discipline when the Wulomo talks. We the Gas, that is where the respect is. Traditionally, we listen to our chiefs and our high priests,” the MCE explained.

He underscored “that is working gradually. When you get to the Zongo, the Chief Imam speaks and everybody listen so it’s a tool that we are using to drum home the message”.

He added that the Nungua Traditional Council has been provided with some Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to enable them work effectively to support the fight.

Nii Bortey noted that some children have been seen breaking the social distance protocols but the taskforce keeps educating them on the need not to crowd in one place.

He said some have the nose masks but would not put them on and instead keep them in their bags and pockets.

In cases like that, he noted, the taskforce gets to them and educate them on the need to wear the nose masks.
