Kwesi Appiah begins second tenure as Black Stars head coach
Kwesi Appiah has officially started his second spell as head coach of Ghana’s senior male national soccer team the Black Stars following his appointment to the position a month ago.
The gaffer was originally slated to start work on May 1, according to the contents of his appointment letter but has had to wait a while longer since the day was set aside as a national holiday to celebrate the efforts of workers.
Appiah is on a two year deal with a clause to renew if all parties involved are satisfied with his output.
He is expected to be assisted by Maxwell Konadu and Ibrahim Tanko, pending official confirmation from the Ghana Football Association.
The rest of his back room staff are also expected to be announced soon following meetings with the GFA.
Former Black Stars players including Stephen Appiah and Richard Kingson have been strongly linked with roles in Appiah’s technical set up.
As part of his duties he is expected to take full charge of the Local Black Stars, a role which was previously not the responsibility of the main Black Stars coach.
He is expected to qualify Ghana for Afcon 2019 while doing his best to rescue the Russia 2018 campaign with Ghana’s chances looking bleak following a poor start.
