Ghana’s heptathlete, Margaret Simpson who won Gold at the African Championship at Porto Novo in Benin 6 years ago, is yet to receive her prize money from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, MyNewsGh.com can report.
The sad story of Margaret is one that sends tears down the cheeks from anyone as the award-winning athlete has resorted to hawking and selling cooking oil on the streets of Ejisu in the Ashanti Region to make a living since that remains her only hope to feed the several mouths in her home.
In an interview, she granted to Summer on Kumasi-based Angel FM and monitored by MyNewsGh.com, the athlete who is married with kids, cataloged how her incessant calls to the Ministry of Youth and Sports to demand her due has proven futile.
She broke down in uncontrollable tears as she recounts her ordeal in demand of unpaid allowances by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
“I cannot steal or engage in prostitution but have to hawk and sell. My mother is bedridden and I take care of her medical bills every week. My husband has done a lot but he cannot do everything”, she said
In a teary mood, she begged “I am pleading with the Sports Ministry to pay what is due me to take care of my sick mother and feed my kids. I know Akufo-Addo is a listening President”
