Meteors Job For Jones
Ex-Black Stars Coach, Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefio, has been lured back to national duty five years after the same appointing authority, the Ghana Football Association, threw him out of the senior national team.
The veteran has been named the head coach of the National U-23, the Black Meteors, to be reconstituted soon.
Jones? appointment is prominent among others which were taken at the last meeting of the Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association last Wednesday , a day after electing it?s Vice-President and forming a Working Committee to steer the affairs of the FA.
Abedi Pele, the former skipper of the Black Stars, has been appointed member of the Management Committee of the senior national team .But it is unlikely that the maestro will accept the appointment as he is engaged in other high profile commitments.
Only weeks ago, the President endorsed him as his representative on the World Cup, thus in the words of a member of the Executive Committee ?I doubt whether Pele will be in the position to take up this appointment?.
Coach Mohammed Sulley, until recently the assistant coach of the national Under-20, side is now the substantive coach and will be assisted by Bright Obeng who assisted coach Duncan in the last U-17 team that played in the African tournament in the Gambia.
Former coach of the Satellites and the current technical head of Accra Hearts of Oak, Francis Oti Akenteng, will now take charge of the national U-17 team.
Other appointments made by the Executive Committee, according to Daily Graphic sources, are those for the various management committees for the national teams.
For the Black Stars, Fred Pappoe, the newly- elected Vice-Chairman of the Executive Committee, will remain the chairman of the Stars Management Committee with other members named as, Dr Dan Aloysius Denkabe, J. Y. Appiah, Chairman of the Ghana League Club?s Association (GHALCA), Owahene Acheampong and Abedi Ayew Pele.
The members constituting the National U-23 team are Randy Abbey, (Chairman), Richard Quarshie, Mr Isaac Yeboah of the Ashanti Regional RFA, Alhaji Franco Lamptey and Sabahn Quaye, Welfare Officer.
The Satellites Management Committee is made up of Felix Ansong the Chairman of Liberty Professionals who is now the Chairman of the committee, Jordan Anagbla, Kwame Ntow Fiako and Dr Ofori Atta, Dr Agyepong (team doctor), and Seidu Younan, masseur.
Other members who have been named to compose the Starlets Management Committee are, Awua Nyamekye, Kotoko?s Accra representative who chairs the committee, Kudjoe Fianoo, CEO of Ashgold, Alhaji Grunsah, Founder and President of King Faisal, Allhaji Raju, Nana Budu and Richard Asare (Welfare Officer).
George Amoako who lost the bid for the vice-chairmanship position of the Executive Committee is now the Chairman of the Finance Committee while Jones Alhassan-Abu, chairs the Player Status Commitee.He takes over from Antwi Gyamfi.
