As the political fever heats up with various activities ahead of the November 21 Parliamentary primaries of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), one aspirant likely to cause huge upset on the scene is Michael Ologo, in the Yilo Krobo Constituency of the Eastern Region.
The Parliamentary hopeful has been lacing up as part of attempts to snatch the Parliamentary nod from the incumbent MP, Magnus Kofi Amoatey who, according to the youth of the area has been lost touch with the grassroots, and for which reason, they are throwing their weight behind Mr. Ologo instead. From all indications, Mr. Ologo has been tipped to be the favorite candidate ahead of his two other contenders.
The 45-year-old Chief Executive Officer of TIMAX Group, who doubles as the General Manager of Radio One Ghana, is making a second attempt, which his constituents said, they are optimistic that come November 21, he would surely unseat the incumbent MP. Also in the race is the Municipal Chief Executive of Yilo Krobo, Andrews Kwesi Sodah.
Mr. Ologo who is also a member of the Board of Directors of Precious Minerals Marketing Company Limited, noted that there is very little to show for the leadership of the incumbent MP who is seeking re-election, saying that “Yilo, this is the moment and this is the time to put the destiny of our people into their own hands to create opportunity for them.”
Mr. Ologo, who is seeking to represent the party as its Parliamentary candidate for Yilo Krobo in the 2016 elections, is leaving no stone unturned within the Constituency to attain his objective, and his campaign is making some major inroads.
He indicated that a new wind of change was blowing in the Yilo Krobo Constituency, which would culminate in his election to represent the NDC as its Parliamentary candidate for the Constituency in the 2016 general elections.
Mr. Ologo stated that the greatest risk the people in the Constituency could take is to try the same old politicians, with the same old ideas and expect different results, saying that the results in such situations are going to be worse.
“My vision of economic empowerment for the area makes me the best man for the job. I am here for a new face, new vision, new hope, new direction and changing lives. This is the time for us to create jobs and open the doors of opportunities for our people,” he noted.
The giant-built Mr. Ologo had a clear vision for his people, and as such, he intends to bring fresh ideas on board to develop the Constituency, tackle education by setting up an education endowment fund to sponsor needy children in the Constituency, adding that training of artisans and empowering them to set up their own businesses was also a priority for him.
Mr. Ologo who he has managed to win the peoples heart, especially the youth, appears to have an upper edge over his other contenders. He mentioned education as his topmost priority in the constituency pledging to put in the necessary structures to improve the level of education in the Constituency to help reduce poverty, illiteracy and disease.
In an interview with a section of the Youth at Somanya, they were of the view that Mr. Ologo is the best candidate to represent them in Parliament and the best to be supported in the upcoming primaries because he is the man for the street and the choice of the youth and the only candidate who could match the other opposition party candidates.
They contended that they had assessed all the aspirants and come to the conclusion that the one aspirant among them stand tall is Mr. Ologo, who they said has risen through the ranks of the party structures and brings on board a wide array of experience coupled with love for the party.
According to the youth, ever since the race for the elections was announced, they have had the opportunity to discern and assess the perspective and plans of the various candidates in the upcoming primaries and have come to the conclusion that Mr. Ologo is the ideal candidate to represent them in Parliament.
“We are pledging our unflinching support for Mr. Ologo’s campaign and our intention both to vote for him in the upcoming primaries and to spread words to others of the value of his presence, policies and abilities to deliver.
“Mr. Ologo is a covenant keeping person who can make the NDC stand tall among all its political opponents in the area. Capability should be the hallmark of every constituency not popularity. He is a candidate with strong energy and wisdom to win the seat for the party.
According to the youth, the incumbent Member of Parliament, Magnus Kofi Amoatey, has lost touch with the constituents, and hardly comes home to visit his constituents and this has caused the wrath of the youth in the constituency, saying that areas where he can popularize and sell himself such as public gatherings and even funerals among others, he hardly attends.
The youth contended that it is painful to note that the MP after assuming office has failed to keep in touch with the electorate neither showing any seriousness that he will be contesting in the 2016 election, stressing “we are of the view that our MP is tired of representing us in Parliament.”
They said Mr. Ologo is a grassroots man and has over the years help build the party in many ways in the constituency, saying that if Mr. Ologo becomes their candidate for next year’s general elections, he would maximize votes for the party in both the presidential and parliamentary elections.
“Mr. Ologo is an appealing and winnable candidate to secure the seat for the NDC. The incumbent MP, Mr. Amoatey can no longer secure the Yilo Krobo seat for the party. So we are calling on the party faithful to vote massively for Mr. Ologo, who would represent our interest in Parliament,” he noted.
They also mentioned that the MCE, Mr. Andrews Kwesi Sodah, who is also in the race, has not impressed the youth in any way that should him to win the contest as Parliamentary candidate for the NDC, saying that for the two terms that Mr. Sodah has served as the MCE, the youth have not seen much of him in terms of developments and other support for the people.
