Ghana decided to empower and appoint local managers for the various national teams in recent times because former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho advised the Ghana government to do so. This is according to the President of the Ghana FA Normalization Committee Dr Kofi Amoah.

In the latest revelation, the outspoken president of the Ghana FA NC claimed that in a private meeting between the former Real Madrid manager and former Ghana President J.A Kufuor, the Portuguese manager urged the West African country to turn attention to their local coaches.

Speaking in an interview on Adom TV, Dr Amoah disclosed that the idea of the former Chelsea boss is what was accepted by the 4-times African champions, hence the return of Kwasi Appiah as the coach of the side.

“I took Mourinho to President Kufour when I invited him to Ghana in 2008. He became my friend through Michael Essien,” he revealed.

“When Mourinho met the then President of the country, he asked why we’re not using our own coaches but have been hiring expatriate coaches who can’t even get jobs in Europe.

“Our coaches can do the job so we must empower them,” he added.

Dr Amoah made the revelation when he was calling for support for Kwasi Appiah ahead of the 2019 AFCON to be hosted in Egypt.
