The National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) has revealed it is yet to receive funds to enable it conduct an aggressive public education on Coronavirus months after it presented its budget to Parliament.

There have been questions over the quality of education about the coronavirus pandemic as the country’s cases now hit 204.

Speaking to GHOne TV, the Greater Accra Regional Director of NCCE, Lucile Annan said Parliament is yet to approve their budget following which the funds can be released for the Commission to sensitize the public on the virus which has so far claimed five lives in Ghana.

“We have provided our budget for COVID-19 education to Parliament, but we have not received it. Maybe they are still working on it for us so for now, we don’t have the funds. That is why for now the partnership with the Church of Pentecost is of so much help to us.”

The Church of Pentecost has donated 10 vans to the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) to aid its public education activities on coronavirus.

The intervention by the Church is aimed at augmenting government’s efforts towards curbing the spread of the virus in the country.

President Akufo Addo last Friday declared two weeks of lockdown in Greater Accra, Kumasi and Tema.

Only essential service providers and persons in the food value chain are allowed to work.
