Karela FC suffered their first defeat at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park to their regional rivals Nzema Kotoko SC 4-2 on penalties after 1-1 in the regulations time.

The defeat brought to an end to Karela United’s 62 games unbeaten run at home in competitive matches.

The Division one side took the lead through Ronald Frimpong and looked to secure an historical victory, but Gyan Ofosu Darlington equalized and sent the game to a penalty shoot out.

Karela United scored two and missed two of their penalty kicks whilst Nzema Kotoko converted all their four kicks to win (4-2).

Karela FC are therefore out of the Tier 2 competition but will take on Ashgold SC in the tier 1 semifinal.

Nzema Kotoko meanwhile move into the last 16 of the Tier 2 after historical win.
