Asante Kotoko midfielder Samuel Appiah Kubi may be focused on football but that has not stopped him from serving his people as he holds a chieftancy position in his hometown.

Appiah Kubi is Kontihene of the Nkoranza Akonkonti Odumase Traditional Area and has the stool Nana Appiah Kumanin.

Samuel Appiah Kubi joined the Porcupine Warriors from Nkoranza Warriors this season in his bid to break into the very competitive Kotoko midfield under new head coach CK Akonnor.

"I'm from Nkoranza in the Brong Ahafo region and I'm the chief of Sefwiman. It's been three years since I was enstooled as chief, I had then returned from Madagascar. I made the elders aware I wouldn't leave my football career for the chieftaincy role".

"They initially didn't like the idea but I argued I wouldn't want to leave my passion for people especially the aged to worship me as a chief. It doesn't affect me because I perform rituals yearly and in the adjudicating of cases and emergency situations, I have elders who do that in my absence. I only go back in emergency situations".

"The entire playing body and management of Kotoko know I'm a chief, initially it was only the coach who knew about it. Even before that the players and everyone gave me the maximum respect needed.

"I have elders who will be in charge and see through the smooth running of my administration so I'm opened to contracts outside the country".

"I have no intentions of leaving football for the chieftaincy role now until I'm no more energetic or is affected by an injury. I will feature for Kotoko in case we play any team in Nkoranza".

The 20-year old silky central midfielder was one of the best performers for Nkoranza Warriors in the Division one league side during his stint at the club in the 2017-18 second-tier league.
