Ghana’s Solomon Asante has once again been named in the USL Championship team of the week which was announced on Tuesday.
The Phoenix Rising FC skipper earned the nomination following his stellar performance for his side during their game against El Paso Locomotive on Friday.
The 28-year-old diminutive attacker whose 72nd-minute goal sealed the victory for his side was said to have won seven duels, created two chances and drew three fouls during the game.
This nomination become the Ghanaian’s eight in the season and 17th week overall for his club as well the ninth consecutive week nomination for the club.
Confirming the nomination, the club twitted that “The game-winning goal scorer @Asante20Magic earns @USLChampionship Team of the Week Honorable mention for Week 23 of the season!”
Asante leads Phoenix in scoring this season with 16 goals in 20 games played and is expected to be in action for his side when they play host to Reno 1868 FC on Friday.
Victory would put the club’s unbeaten run to 14 games this season and set a new record in the USL for the number of winning streaks.
Phoenix Rising have previously beaten Reno 1868 FC 3-0 and this could be another opportunity to write their names on the history books of the USL.
