Sports Minister meets Osumanu Adama and pledges boxing arena soon

Sports Minister Hon. Clement Kofi Humado has assured Ghanaian boxing fans that the sport could soon boast an arena of their own, All Sports can reveal.

Mr. Humado who has expressed commitment to the development of all sporting disciplines, adds that training of coaches and trainers for boxers will also be a priority of his administration.

“I know GBA is one of the well organised sporting authorities and I also know you need some support. Boxing also deserves some support for training and development up to national and international level.

“Only last week we had someone from Qatar who wanted to see how he can help so we have decided on a boxing arena first in Accra before all other regions,” Hon. Humado told Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) President Samir Captan when he led US based boxer Osumanu Adama to present his 3 championship titles to the Minister last Wednesday.

“We will also work on training on local coaches. We have this agreement with Cuba but if it becomes necessary bringing in a coach from outside to train and hold clinics for local coaches, we can facilitate it,” the Sports Minister added after congratulating Osumanu Adama for raising high the flag of Ghana in the USA.

Adama popularly called Machine Gun is in the country on a short holiday after beating Marcus Upshaw in March to win a treble of IBO Intercontinental, USBA and USBO middleweight titles consequently pushing his claim for a world title fight.

Adama has also improved to 14th (WBC) and 10th (IBF) in the latest rankings released on Wednesday.

“Congrats Osumanu and I wish that you stay as champ for as long as you can and follow in the great steps of Azumah, Ike Quartey, Agbeko, D.K. Poison and the rest.

“I tried boxing when I was young but I couldn’t just stand it. So for Osumanu to get to the world stage means you have discipline and I assure you of our support and you also take responsibility as a role model for younger ones,” the Minister said to the boxer.

“Thanks for your welcome and I am grateful for the great hospitality you have shown me. I’ve heard your advice and I promise to work harder to bring honour and glory to Ghana,” pledged Osumanu Adama.
