‘Stars need our support now’
A Sports enthusiast, Nana Bentsi-Oduro, has appealed to Ghanaian sports fans to offer their unflinching support to the Black Stars in their quest to surmount the challenge their group, described by the connoisseurs as the ‘group of death’.
“Regardless of our impressive showing at Germany 2006 and South Africa 2010 World Cup tournaments, some Ghanaians are still skeptical about our chances to impress , given our ‘group of death tag” he stated in an interview with Graphic Sports.
He noted “following the nature of teams the Black Stars will encounter at the group stage, a section of sports personalities have already written off the Stars, but with the quality of players that have been selected to represent Ghana, they are capable of progressing from the group stage”.
“A team, comprising the blend of old and new players such as Michael Essien, Sulley Ali Muntari, Asamoah Gyan, Kwadwo Asamoah, Dede Ayew, Rabiu Mohammed, Wakasu Mubarak, John Boye and Jonathan Mensah among others ,will certainly send shivers down the spines of our opponents” .
Giving an overview of both the 2006 and 2010 World Cups , .Bentsi-Oduro noted” Ghana gave a good account of themselves on both appearances and narrowly missed a semi-final berth in the 2010 edition but both occasions saw Ghana selling out sterling performances on the biggest stage in association football”
“Progressing from their group stage in the Brazil 2014 tournament to conquer the world will provide a sense of pride and a feeling of completeness for both the players and the entire country," he contended.
