Cape Coast, Sept.18, GNA- Mr Joseph Butler, a citizen of Cape Coast resident in the United States and a patron of 'Cape Coast Loopers' a table tennis team, on Tuesday appealed to the National Sports Council (NSC) to ensure that the promotion of table tennis is given due attention throughout the country.
He said doing so would enable the discovery of potential players that will develop into super stars and win laurels for the country. Mr Butler appealed to retired table tennis players and philanthropists to lend their support to the game and assist in its development.
He made the appeal at a special table tennis tournament organised at the Osabarimba Youth Centre at Cape Coast, which he sponsored. Agona Swedru 'Spinners' won the competition, with a 2-1 win over 'Loopers' while Mohammed Ali of Swedru, who is also the national 'under 15' champion, beat Isaac Eshun of Cape Coast by a similar margin in the men's singles competition.
Marian Aidoo of Cape Coast, and Felix Boateng of Swedru, beat Akosua Kaitoo of Swedru, and Monfred Mohammed 2-1 and 2-0 respectively, to win the boys and girls divisions of the competition respectively. 18 Sept 03
