Council chairman advocates for peace in Tuobodom

Ä middle aged internal auditor for the Wenchi district in the Brong Ahafo region, Mr. Kofi Nimoh who was Friday 6th July, 2007 elected unopposed as the chairman of the Tuobodom area council in Techiman municipality has advocated for peace and co-existence in the area.

According to him since unity and mutuality are prerequisite tools towards socio – economic development they should be given chance to operate as expected. He explained that the town is lagging behind in terms of development as a result of scores of chieftaincy and other forms of social disputes. Mr. Nimoh who made this pronouncement on the occasion of the council’s first ordinary meeting of the fifth session reiterated that time has come for traditional leaders and other social groups in the town come together and fight vigorously against acts which is dragging the town’s image into the mud due to some avoidable conflicts.

He advised youth in the area that form a chunk portion of the Tuobodom’s population to reason together and join all scattered pieces, there by using dialogue to settle all disputes, since consensus building is the appropriate means of finding a permanent antidote to any form dispute that may cropped up in the course of service delivery. The new council chairman who is expected to serve one year term in office stated emphatically that peace and stability are common forces needed for uninterrupted development. Mr. Nimoh who is also the assemblyman for Tanoboase electoral area in the Techiman north constituency observed that the people of Tuobodom stand a better chance of seeing the green light if authorities see themselves as one people with a common destiny having one developmental goal to achieve for the benefit of posterity.

He took the opportunity to warn the journalists operating in the municipality and B/A at large to desist from fanning the chieftaincy dispute in Tuobodom through their writings. The new council chairman observed that the fourth estate should consider her enviable role in national development and help fight the numerous problems in Tuobodom Township. Mr. Nimoh said one major problem which is hampering progress in the area is politicization of developmental issues. This he explained must be seen as a thing of the past because it has adverse effect on the town’s future. Traditional leaders were entreated not to meddle in party politics since they are character formatters and are expected to play neutral role.

The councilors were urged to help improve the Internally Generated Fund (IGF) in the town. He was quoted as saying the IGF must be honoured by all without any disparities. In an interview, the newly elected chairman told classic news that plans are far advanced for the principal roads in the town to be rehabilitated. The secretary to the council, Mr. Ampaabeng Kyeremeh commended the outgoing chairman for his selfless service delivered and advised the in coming one to follow suit because the task ahead is very onerous. Mr. Kyeremeh appealed to the Techiman municipal Assembly (TMA) to help improve revenue collection system in Tuobodom, continuing that the effort of the council alone would not be enough.

Later Finance and Administration (F/A) as well as Development and Services committees were formed having Messrs P.K Effah and Baffour Afrifa as to chairmen for the two committees.
