The United Nations (UN) has urged Ghanaians to pay particular attention to laid down COVID-19 prevention protocols as they queue to register for this year’s general election.

A statement by the UN Secretary General’s special representative to West Africa and the Sahel Mohammed Ibn Chambas encouraged the people of Ghana to support the peaceful conduct of the registration.

“As the registration takes place amid the current COVID-19 pandemic, I entreat all Ghanaians to continue taking appropriate measures towards ensuring that the process is carried out with the utmost respect for health and safety protocols to protect those willing to register from any possible contagion,” he said.

Chambas urged all stakeholders to work in a concerted manner in creating an enabling environment for a peaceful, credible, and inclusive process that has respect for human rights and the rule of law.

He reiterated the support of the UN, in close collaboration with other international organizations for Ghana’s electoral process, urging the country to continue on its exemplary path of democratic consolidation and development.
