The winner of the maiden edition of the 2019 African Triathlon Sprint Cup scheduled for the Labadi Beach Hotel, Accra, will take home a mouthwatering cash prize of $3,000.
The event fixed for Sunday June 9, would also serve as a qualifier for the 2020 Olympic Summer Games and would bring together triathletes from all over the world to compete in a 750-meter swimming, 20 kilometre biking and a 5 kilometre running in the elite group made up of international and professional triathletes starting from the Labadi Beach.
A statement from the Ghana Triathlon Federation (GTF) said the one-day event under the sponsorship of Cowbell (Promasidor Ghana Limited), is an International Triathlon Union (ITU) sanctioned Olympic qualifier that has brought triathletes from Luxemburg, France, Turkey, Morocco, Syria, among others countries to Ghana.
According to the statement, the race which would start at 8:30 am at the Labadi Beach would have team Ghana led by Master Ofusu Mark Twum and Laila Zangwio, with Abdul-Rauf Yahaya, Musah Seidu and Ebenezer Osebutey, seeking for honours.
It stated that registration is still ongoing and could also be done on the event day as well.
The event is supported by Cowbell, Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), The Ghana Police, National Sports Authority (NSA), Labadi Beach Hotel Ghana Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service, St John Ambulance and 16 Technical officials and six coaches.
