2021 FA Cup final: African quartet who helped Leicester City outfox Chelsea

Leicester City beat Chelsea to win the English FA Cup on Saturday ay the Wembley Stadium.

Youri Tielemans' 63rd minute goal was all the Foxes needed to outfox Thomas Tuchel's side.

Brendan Rodgers's side had four African players, two of whom played crucial roles in securing the victory.

Nigerian duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi were part of the starting line-up that secured the club a historic first FA Cup trophy after they lost their last four appearances in the final.

The other African players in the squad for the new FA Cup champions were Daniel Amartey and Nampalys Mendy of Ghana and Senegal respectively. Both players started from the bench.

Chlesea equalized through Ben Chiwell but a Virtual Assistant Referee, VAR, check ruled out the strike as an offside.

It was the first final appearnace since 1968 with Leicester holding the record of most appearances in a final without winning the trophy.

The loss meant that Chelsea kissed goodbye to their dreams of a double trophy this season - the FA Cup and Champions League final as they come against Manchester City later this month.

20,000 fans were allowed into the venue for the fixture, the biggest crowd since COVID-19 lockdown.
