The National Association of Nigerian Students on Friday, advised the government of the President, Major Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and the state governors to develop strategies to end the rising insecurity in the country.

NANS said that the spate of killings and razing of police stations were terrifying, added that the masses were going through difficult times.

NANS National Public Relations Officer, Victor Ezenagu, at a press conference in Owerri, said that things were going out of hand.

He said “It is no longer hidden that the insecurity in Nigeria has worsened to the extent that in most parts of the country, Nigerians are left to their fate when confronted with either life-threatening attacks or terrorists’ invasion, how low can we go as a nation?

“In the book encapsulating the social contract between the government and the people – the constitution, the first obligation of the government is to secure lives and property. If a government can not deliver this, then your guess is as good as mine."

“Therefore, this is the time for the government at all levels to become more proactive in devising means and strategies to protect common Nigerians, ensuring the legislation of people oriented policies, evenly distribute resources and democratic dividends, engage adequate and competent hands while shunning nepotism, tribalism and religious sentiments so as to arrest these insecurities and enthrone unity as the country has never been this divided since the history of our current democracy.”

He also condemned the attacks on various public and private institutions in the country, while he sympathised with the families of the victims.
