Kambic Industrial Partners has unveiled plans for the $1.3 billion Amaaba Bio-Refinery Complex, a landmark initiative set to become Africa’s first industrial-scale bamboo biomass refinery and the world’s largest bamboo-based biofuel facility.
The project, developed in partnership with global leaders Honeywell and Chempolis, will transform Ghana’s abundant bamboo resources into advanced biofuels and green chemicals, including Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), renewable diesel, green naphtha, bioethanol, furfural, lignin and acetic acid.
CEO John Kaku Mason described the initiative as “a historic milestone not only for Ghana, but for the entire African continent.”
He said the refinery demonstrates Africa’s potential to lead in clean energy innovation, adding, “By transforming locally available bamboo into world-class sustainable fuels and green chemicals, we are creating jobs, building new industries, and elevating Ghana onto the world stage of green innovation.”
The company highlighted the strength of its global partnerships, noting that Honeywell brings “cutting-edge expertise in refining technology and sustainable fuel production systems,” while Chempolis provides its advanced Formico® biorefining technology, enabling highly efficient conversion of bamboo biomass.
Kambic said these collaborations will ensure the project operates “at the highest global environmental and operational standards”, supporting long-term sustainability, competitiveness and industrial growth.
