The Northern Regional Chairman of the Opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu has questioned the rationale behind the refusal of the Northern Regional Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sofo Azorka, to attend the NDC's campaign launch in Cape Coast on Sunday.

He also has questioned why Mr. Martin Amidu and Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawling failed to attend the campaign launch of the party.

President John Mahama addressing party faithful at the NDC's Campaign launch in Cape Coast took a swipe at the NPP, describing them as a violent party that cannot unite its rank and file.

But responding to President Mahama in Tamale, the outspoken Northern regional Chairman of the NPP said the NDC is more divided and violent than the NPP.

He accused the NDC of being behind the woes of the NPP.

The NDC Northern Regional Chairman was conspicuously missing at the launch of the party's campaign in the Central Regional capital, Cape Coast, on Sunday.

A confidential source said Mr. Azorka refused to attend the congress because the party hierarchy defied the orders of northern regional executives to appoint the Member of Parliament for Tamale South as the Northern regional campaign coordinator of the party.

According to the source, the poor reception accorded President John Dramani Mahama during his last leg of "Accounting to the People Tour" in the region was attributed to the Tamale South legislator.

The source further stated that, all MMDCEs and executives in the region were however summoned to Accra to answer queries on how the president was ignored by his own.

It said the Northern regional executives in answering their queries accused the Tamale South MP of being behind the poor show.

Based on that, the National executives of the NDC led by its general secretary reached a decision to give the campaign coordinator to Haruna Iddrisu since the MP is so powerful to cause that stir in the party, he can equally calm nerves of the disgruntled and raging party faithful in the region.

But the decision however did not go down well with some of the Northern regional executives, especially Chairman Azorka and his associates.

They executives according to a source prefered the National executives gave the Campaign Coordinatorship to former Northern regional Minister and current Minister of Food and Agriculture, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna.

A source closer to the NDC chairman says he is threatening to boycott any activity of the party that the Tamale South MP, Haruna Iddrisu, is involved.

But in an exclusive interview with the Northern regional Chairman of the NDC, Sofo Azorka said he could not attend the campaign launch because he had a funeral to attend as well as other important issues.

He however declined further comments on the matter but to say that he will teach some people lessons within the party.

Meanwhile, information available indicates that the former Northern regional minister, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna has been appointed as the campaign coordinator for northern region.
