Policeman I disrespected is my uncle - Shatta Wale

Self-acclaimed dancehall king Shatta Wale born Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr has apologised to the entire police service for his verbal scuffle between himself and a police officer at East Legon.

According to him, the Ghana Police Service has been nice to him and so he does not want any individual to tarnish his image with the service.

In a video that went viral over the weekend, a police officer was seen ordering the ‘Freedom’ hit-maker and his friends to get back into their cars and follow him to the police station.

The Singer failed in his attempt to talk to the policeman to let him and his friends go. In that process, Shatta Wale got angry and started shouting at the police officer, asking why he was being difficult in dealing with him.

In 11 minutes 20 seconds Facebook live video monitored by GhanaWeb, the controversial singer denied being arrested by the police because he was driving an unregistered Range Rover but he said the police rather stopped his G-Wagon.

“My Range Rover wasn’t stopped. I wasn’t arrested but it was my G-Wagon that was stopped and I went over there to talk to the police because that is what I do and they listen to me. They are humans like us,” he explained.

“This policeman you guys are talking about is my Uncle. He has helped me in life before” he said.

“Yes, I will apologise for the conduct for raising my voice. Sometimes some of our voices come out in a way that people might think it is provocative, but it is that same voice that God has blessed me to be creating hits and people are loving it” he added.

Shatta Wale further cautioned the public not to disrespect the Ghana Police Service because nobody is above the law.

“People should stop portraying that because Shatta Wale I am not like that” he warned.

The ‘Taking Over’ hit-maker said the more people continue to portray him in the negative light, the more he makes his money.

He said despite how things were crazy, he still accepts the blame no matter what.

“The police are my friends and I don’t care what anybody says. I get protected a lot during my stadium shows. I have seen police from Regional Office standing for me from night till morning, just because I am performing,” he stressed.

But a woman who was believed to have filmed an exchange between the Police and Dancehall Artiste, Shatta Wale was arrested.
