Tension seems to be brewing between some parents and the Headteacher of Christ the King School Mrs. Veronica Laryea following an impasse among the two parties.

In a two-paged petition to the school’s Board of Directors with the Vicar General, Regional Director and the Catholic Education Unit on copy, 85 parents with wards in the school signed complaining about Mrs. Laryea’s mismanagement of the school as well as dictatorial relationship with parents and pupils.

The twelve (12) pointer petition cited the grievances the parents have with the Headteacher which they want addressed by the aforementioned authorities.

According to the parents, “there was an unprecedented situation where the headmistress stood outside to aggressive indulge in exchange of words with a parent who wanted clarification to an issue, to an extent that she encouraged her driver to use the word ‘kwasia’ which is to wit 'stupid' on the parent.”

They also alleged that in another instant, “a class 2 pupil had to leave the school in search of her mother at 5pm because in her own words ‘she was afraid of Mrs. Laryea’ to wait for her mother”.

Again, they posited that “there is a poor welfare system under Mrs. Laryea’s watch, a case in point was when a labourer’s ward was knocked down by a car, and she refused him permission to attend to his ward.

So far thirteen (13) dedicated teachers who are not in agreement with the Headmistress’ tenure have reportedly resigned with more threatening to follow suit.

The parents therefore pleaded with the School’s Board of Directors to intervene in the impasse since a cordial relationship is required for the upbringing of the pupils and the progress of their education.

Below is the petition signed by the parents to the Board of Directors of Christ the King School:
