The youth in Wa, comprising people from all political divides, trotro drivers, market women and landlords are resisting the realignment of Wa UDS.

They believe that the realignment of the University is set to collapse the Wa campus as 3 courses from the campus have already been taken away to other campuses whilst 14 proposed department are yet to be relocated.

The relocated courses include the whole faculty of education, Environment and Natural Resources and Economics.

According to them, businesses in the Upper West Region are collapsing as a result of the reduction in students population.

Conveners Abdulai Ishak and Suleman Ishahaku are calling on stakeholders including the government to stop the realignment process and grant the various campuses autonomy.

They also called on the University authorities to stop intimidating lecturers who are believed to be working in their favour.

Before the demonstration, the youth held a press conference to announce a roadmap of activities until their demands are met.

These include organizing series of demonstrations, locking up lecture halls and offices on the Wa campus, petitioning the president of the Republic of Ghana for the autonomy of Wa campus with particular reference to Dr Christene Amoaku Nuamah's 10 member committee report and also fight the issues in court which they have just begun.

As part of the road map, the concerned citizens have sent the matter to court in Tamale and on Monday there will be a hearing.

They, however, commissioned an appeal for fund to help fight the case.
