Lartekwei Hammond fights for Commonwealth title
Lartekwei Hammond, the national and West African Super-Lightweight boxing champion is billed to fight Junior Witter of the United Kingdom on 8 July in a Commonwealth title fight. Lartekwei who is training in the United States is expected to arrive in London two weeks to the fight, where he will be joined by his manager Alhaji Tofik and his local trainer.
Mr Justus Agbeko, General Secretary of the Ghana Boxing Authority told the GNA Sports that the contract for the fight had been signed and the promoters are expected to send air tickets for the trip. He said he was optimistic that Lartekwei would do Ghana proud by winning the commonwealth crown.
Meanwhile, Joshua Clottey, the African welterweight champion is expected home from London before the weekend as his scheduled World Boxing Federation (WBF) title fight slated for last weekend in London was botched for want of opponent.
The GBA General Secretary said though Joshua was invited by the World Sports Organisation, a boxing promotion syndicate under the chairmanship of Mr Jonathan Field to fight for the WBF title, his opponent pulled out and efforts to get replacements yielded no dividends.
