Ghanaian boxer, Richard Commey risk losing his professional license if it is established that he indeed assaulted his cousin, Sadat Laryea in Accra earlier this week.

Ghanaweb checks reveal that while the matter is currently being handled as a family issue, the Ghana Boxing Authority may be forced to step him if it is established that an assault indeed happened.

The rule of boxing bars professional boxers from fighting outside of the ring.

For now, though, Richard Oblitey Commey, has denied the allegation.

Commey, who has been on vacation in Ghana since last December, believes his relative just wanted to tarnish his image by making those false claims.

According to the 33-year-old fighter, he never punched his cousin in the face as reported during the misunderstanding between them but only dragged him on the floor.

“I didn’t do anything to him during our confrontation. What happened was that I only dragged him on the floor but never punched him in the face.

“They only want to tarnish my image by saying all these things about me but it won’t work,” Commey told the Daily Graphic.

But Commey’s cousin Sadat Larye has a different version, arguing that Commey y and his friends assaulted him after a misunderstanding between his mother and Commey’s mother.

Narrating the incident, an emotional Laryea told the Daily Graphic that he received two punches from Commey during the fracas which landed him at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment.

“I don’t know what his mother told him happened between our mothers but he came to attack me with his friends. If what I did by separating our mothers from fighting was why he assaulted me, then I don’t have anything to say,” Laryea lamented.

Laryea, however, said he would be willing to make peace with Commey whenever he decides to apologise to him.

Commey has been training at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra for the past five months since losing his IBF belt to America’s Teofimo Lopez at the Madison Square Garden in New York last December.
