The youth wing of the NDC in the Volta region has embarked on Coronavirus outreach in communities in the Ketu South Municipality to stop the spread of the virus.

The outreach, which had support from national, regional and constituency executives, saw the distribution of about 8,000 nose masks and 700 pieces of liquid soap to people in the communities.

The team also sensitised individuals and groups on COVID-19 preventive protocols and encouraged them to maintain personal and environmental cleanliness.

The Volta Regional Youth Organiser of the Party, Mathias Alagbo, said the regional outreach was to complement efforts of John Dramani Mahama, former President and Flagbearer of the Party in the COVID-19 fight.

“We believe that as a responsible youth wing of a Party that’s about to form government in January 2021, we have a responsibility to join this fight to ensure the safety of our people and so, we’ve set out to mobilise the production of 20,000 local standardised nose masks for distribution in what we call emerging COVID-19 spread areas in the Region...”

Madam Ruth Dela Sedor, Deputy National Youth Organiser, NDC, said the youth wing was inspired by the leadership of Mr Mahama to move out to various parts of the country and let Ghanaians know that “indeed COVID-19 is real, it’s killing people globally and must be taken seriously” with the hope that the country would win the fight soon.

She said, “What we want to do is to make people understand that we love them, NDC thinks about them. We are a better alternative because even in opposition, we’re leading by example and that’s why I have my nose mask on and we’re going round sensitising the people.”

Madam Dzifa Abla Gomashie, Ketu South Parliamentary Candidate for the NDC, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency asked the residents not to be partisan in the fight against COVID-19 and observe preventive measures such as social distancing and washing of hands with soap under running water to defeat the virus.

Mr Joe Komada, Vice Chairman, Aflao Progressive Transport Owners’ Association (PROTOA) commended the NDC for joining the fight against the pandemic and advised drivers to strictly adhere to safety protocols to stop the spread.
