Calls for prosecution of persons involved in GRA-SML deal unfounded – Majority

The Majority in Parliament has dismissed demands for the prosecution of individuals involved in the GRA-SML revenue mobilization contract.

Stakeholders in the energy sector, along with the Minority in Parliament and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), have called for the full report's disclosure, with some advocating for legal action.

Following President Akufo-Addo's directives after receiving the KPMG audit report, which identified several issues with the agreement, these demands have intensified.

Contrarily, Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, addressing the media in Parliament, maintained that the KPMG report did not reveal any criminal activities.

He noted that the initial PPA approval, which was initially declined, was later ratified.

Afenyo-Markin also stated that the report's contents, intended for the President's eyes, are protected under the Right to Information Act, making their release unlawful.

He warned the minority to refrain from actions that could potentially harm Ghanaian-owned enterprises like SML.
