The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary candidate for the Chiana-Paga constituency in the Upper East Region, Thomas Adda Dalu has presented some sanitary materials, Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and other medical supplies to the Kasena-Nankana West District directorate health service.

The candidate made the donation on Sunday to support the directorate to fight the spread of the deadly Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the area.

The donation included 100 pieces of reusable and disposable gowns, 50 pieces of face visors, 45 boxes of face masks and gloves, 68 boxes of liquid soap and gallons of alcohol-based hand sanitizers and fifty ‘Veronica buckets’ complete with stands.

At a brief engagement to hand the items over to the district health authorities, Mr. Dalu, who was full of praises for health workers in the area and country, said his gesture was to complement efforts by the health directorate to adequately prepare themselves, especially the front line workers, to handle any case of the disease as they go about discharging their duties in the district, which borders Burkina Faso, one of West African’s worse hit countries.

“We (NDC) want to thank the health personnel who have stood on their grounds to fight the disease, particularly the front line personnel. We love and appreciate your efforts and we want to encourage you to work hard and that is why we are bringing these things (Items). We are hopeful that the little support we have given will help prevent our people from getting the coronavirus disease”.

Mr. Dalu, appealing to the health staff in the area to keep up the good work of selfless service to the people, gave the assurance that the party will continue to extend a helping hand to the district health authorities in whatever way they can to achieve the total elimination of the disease in the country.

“As a party in this constituency, we will continue to support the district health directorate to discharge their duties for the good of the people,” he assured.

He reiterated the need for the people to observe the social distancing protocol, practice proper hand washing and maintain good personal and environmental cleanliness, stressing that; “it is a serious disease and we must adhere to these guidelines to save us”.

Dr. Atawura Henry, a lecturer at the University of Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, who was part of the delegation, took time to educate the gathering on the trend of the disease. He also demonstrated how to use some of the PPEs to the health personnel present at the ceremony.

He urged all to take the disease seriously, report suspected cases to the health authorities and be health conscious.

The acting Medical Superintendent of the Paga District Hospital, Dr. Oteng Didier, who received the items on behalf of the District Director of Health Service, mentioned the enormous impact the donation would have in enabling health staff adequately prepare to handle any case.

He, on behalf of the director, pledged to see to it that the items are well taken care of and used for the purpose for which the items have been procured.

Dr. Oteng said the items would be distributed to all the health facilities in the district to enhance health care delivery.

He spread calm saying, “we want to assure that we will also do our best in managing the cases by first identifying them at the community level, sub district, the health centres and then the hospitals. We will do our best to control the spread of the disease in the area.”

The donation was made in the presence of the constituency chairman, James Kupanamo, other party executives and sympathizers of the umbrella family.
