A director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Amansie Central District could face court after she was arrested for allegedly producing and selling fake hand sanitizers.

Joyce Frimpong was arrested on Friday, April 3, at her Jacobu home, by a joint police and national security operatives upon intelligence, Dailymailgh.com gathered.

A search by the police led to the retrieval of containers filled with hand sanitizers and quantity of empty ones labelled ‘Adom Hand Sanitizer’.

Northern Sector Editor, Jonathan Ofori also reports that a chunk of the product is already on the market putting the lives of the Jacobu Community at risk.

“Police had already bought some from the suspect at ¢2, ¢5 and ¢10, per container according to the sizes”, a source told Ofori.

The suspect has since been granted a police enquiry bail pending further investigations. It is gathered that samples of the product will be sent to the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) for further investigations.

Efforts to get Joyce Frimpong for comments, however, yielded little results.

The demand for hand sanitizers has shot up in Ghana following the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus. As part of the precautionary measures against the disease, expects have urged the general public to to commit to regular hand washing with soap and running water and the use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers.

This has shot up the demand for hand sanitizers with some private persons taking advantage to produce some locally for sale.

On Wednesday, March 25, 2020, a man and his wife were arrested in Techiman in Ghana’s Bono East Region for committing a similar offense.

Daniel Opoku Ababio and Dorothy Opoku are facing the Techiman Circuit Court while investigations continue.
