The Member of Parliament for Agona West in the Central Region, Hon. Cynthia Maamle has replaced Hon. Adjoa Safo at the Pan-African Parliament following the appointment of the latter as the Minister of Public Procurement.

Ghana has been allocated a total of 8 seats under Article 5 of the Protocol relating to the Community Parliament of ECOWAS out of a total of one hundred and twenty (120) seats for the entire sixteen (16) member ECOWAS states.

Under the said Protocol and the rules of procedure of the ECOWAS Parliament, a member appointed to carry out an executive function in a member state should resign as a member due to this, the House appointed Hon. Cynthia Maamle Morrison.

The Member of Parliament for Efutu in the Central Region, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin has also replaced Hon. O.B Amoah who has been appointed as the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Rainbow Radio’s Parliamentary correspondent Naa Darkuah Dodoo pledged to build on the legacy of Hon. Adjoa Safo. According to her, the latest appointment is an elevation adding, ‘’I feel so humbled, I didn’t expect it, I didn’t see it coming...This is an elevation and I express my gratitude to God.

My election as an MP was an endorsement by my constituents that I can serve their interest. I least expected this elevation because this is my first time in Parliament.

I have only spent 3 months in Parliament and with this elevation, I will only pray, work hard and make Ghana proud. ’’ She added, ‘’I will not forget my constituents.

I will continue to work hard and serve their interest...My new appointment is one that comes with responsibilities because Hon. Adjoa Safo made a mark at the ECOWAS Parliament and so I will seek her guidance and tutorials.

She is very eloquent and when she is on the floor of Parliament, she makes meaningful submissions.

I have to continue building on the legacy of Hon. Adjoa Safo to put Ghana out there.’’

The legislator concluded stating that, she will also seek guidance from some other senior legislators who have had experience at the ECOWAS Parliament including the Second Deputy Speaker, Hon. Alban Bagbin and Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, the Minority Chief Whip.
