Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) David Asante Apeatu must institute measures to address corruption in the Ghana Police Service, David Agbey, Executive Secretary of policy think tank Ghana Institute of Governance and Security (GIGS), has admonished.

The security analyst further explained that impunity within the service needed to be addressed.

He told Moro Awudu on Class FM’s Executive Breakfast Show that the new administration had to ensure that the image of the police was cleaned up.

“Quite recently you realise that preventing impunity within the police administration has been quite difficult. So we expect the new administration to ensure that they prevent impunity and corruption in the police as an institution,” he said on Wednesday, February 8.

He emphasised: “Some of the criminal offences that the police were involved in last year and other years are unpardonable, so we want them to bring a good image to the police administration so there will be a common platform of people trusting the police.”

Commenting on the recent police transfers, he indicated that it was normal practice and was likely in line with the strategies of the new acting IGP.
