Deputy Lands Minister charges mining officers to exhibit good work ethics

Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Barbara Oteng-Gyasi has charged all District mining officials to put up the best of behaviour in order to avoid past challenges that faced the Minerals Commission.

“We are restructuring the Minerals Commission to increase its footprints in the Districts and Regions, you, therefore, need to ensure that what happened in the past do not occur again and District mining officers should up their performance especially at a time when the Ban on small-scale Mining is lifted.”

Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi stated this when she met staff of the Minerals Commission this morning on behalf of the sector Minister. She called on district mining officers to also cooperate with the various Assemblies in all mining-related matters, to enable Ghanaians see the paradigm shift in the small-scale mining sector.

The Deputy Minister also reiterated the Ministry's determination to effect some changes at the Commission to, among other things, help refresh and make the Commission more effective and efficient. She added that the restructuring exercise is not a victimization drive and implored staff to be ready to work in any role assigned them.

“We are partners serving our country,” she emphasized.

Hon.Barbera Oteng Gyasi also took the opportunity to wish all the staff a fruitful year, 2019.

On his part, Deputy Minister Benito Owusu Bio stressed that nobody is being victimized adding that “we will make you comfortable at the Ministry”.

He mentioned that the restructuring exercise, which will see a number of staff being transferred to either the Ministry and Agencies under it and or regions, will go a long way to enable the Ministry attain the feat of Best Ministry for 2019 since staff, full of innovative ideas, will work extra hard to meet the mandate and the overall vision of the Ministry.

"In 2017 we were adjudged the Best Ministry and we can do it again".



The Board Chairman of the Minerals Commission, Hon. S.K Boafo called on staff of the commission to “work for Ghana, you are part of the system and not NDC and NPP". He entreated staff to always strive to do their work for the betterment of all. “Your good work will follow you wherever you go," he concluded.

It would be recalled that sector Minister Kwaku Asoma-Cheremeh yesterday made public the decision of government to transform the sector and subsequently transfer some 7 Senior officers of the Minerals Commission, which can best be described as G-7 members; to take a place at the Ministry for further directives
