The Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) wants the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to take over investigations into the botched concession agreement with Power Distribution Services (PDS), Ghana.
Chairman of PIAC, Dr Steve Manteaw believes the Energy Ministry cannot be a judge in its own court.
His comment follows an admission by the Energy Minister, John Peter Amewu that the guarantees presented by PDS were not authorised after series of due diligence tests the guarantees were subjected to by the Electricity Company of Ghana.
He added that the government will further investigate and bring the perpetrators to book.
But, Dr Manteaw on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, Thursday said the government must refer the case to EOCO for proper investigations.
“In an issue where there is fraud involved; I think EOCO is the right body,” he stated.
The PIAC boss said he feels vindicated that the PDS deal is now a fiasco because all their warnings were ignored.
“I’m not surprised this has happened because we warned government from the beginning. I’m happy this has happened,” Dr Manteaw said.
