The Paramount Chief of Avatime in the Ho-West District of Volta Region, Osie Adza Tekpor VII, has admonished natives of Avatime communities and the entire Ghanaian citizenry to uphold in esteem, ethical family values, noting, they serve as key safety nets to societal growth and protection against the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

“We need to rise to our family responsibilities by imparting in our children and folks, ethical and moral values required as building blocks of societal safety and development, especially during this alarming period of COVID-19,” he lamented.

The Paramount Chief’s admonishment, contained in his Easter message and made available to the media, follows the increasing reported cases of spread and infection of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) across the country, and failure of most citizens to comply with safety measures against the disease. He cautioned citizens, particularly the elderly with underlying health conditions such as respiratory challenges, hypertension, diabetes and related ailments to confine themselves to their homes and guard against possible infection of the diseases.

Osie Adza Tekpor also cautioned against hazardous lifestyles such as smoking and excessive alcohol intake that are detrimental to the immune system. He, therefore, reiterated his call for strict adherence to health safety regulations by regularly washing hands under running water, applying sanitizers, wearing protective kits such as nose masks as well as observing social distancing protocols and government’s directives including the ban on public restrictions.

The Paramount Chief also urged citizens to be guided by the values of love demonstrated by Jesus Christ and rededicated their faith in the Lord during this Easter period with a renewed spirit of love for one another, peace and unity.
