The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has announced that the government owes them an amount of GH¢1.7 billion.

This amount is in connection with the outstanding payments to the Ghana Education Service Occupational Pension Scheme (Tier 2) for the past year.

In an interview with Accra-based Citi FM, GNAT’s General Secretary, Thomas Musah, stated that it is about time the government settles their dues to avoid any disturbances by the end of the month.

He said, “The government owes us approximately GH¢770 million, and that is the principal. When you add the 3 percent to it, it will now be approximately GH¢1 billion."

“So the government now owes us GH¢1.7 billion, and we are saying that the government should, as a matter of urgency, make sure that the monies are paid to our fund or to the scheme to avoid disturbances by the end of this month. It will not be in anybody’s interest,” Thomas Musah stated.

GNAT entreated government to send their contributions to their scheme managers to avoid any further actions.
