Ghana will begin a mass disinfection exercise across all basic and second-cycle schools as the country’s Covid-19 outbreak surges.

The exercise, according to the Ghana Education Service (GES), will take effect on Tuesday, April 14, 2020.

Waste management company, Zoomlion Ghana Limited has been contracted to carry out the exercise, a statement signed by the Director-General of GES, Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa on Thursday, April 9 said.

The statement further requested all Regional Directors to direct all Heads of Schools in their respective regions to “cooperate fully and open up their schools to the Zoomlion Ghana Limited to carry out the exercise with effect from Tuesday, 14th April, 2020”.

Ghana is in a desperate bid to stop the COVID-19 pandemic.

Early last month, the country’s President Akufo-Addo announced an indefinite closure of all public and private schools following the outbreak.

The country’s total case count now stands at 313 with six deaths.

A partial stay-at-home order has been imposed in some parts of the country to control the spread of the disease.
