Ghana has been ranked sixth in Africa in terms of the highest Cost of Living and Rent Index, according to data from Numbeo.

The West African nation scored 21.0 points, placing it among the 16 African countries featured in the rankings.

Cameroon topped the list with a score of 27.5, followed by Nigeria in second place with 27.1 points.

Zimbabwe and Mauritius shared the third position, both recording 24.1 points, while South Africa came in fifth.

Ghana also ranked sixth in the Groceries Index with a score of 33.9.

Regarding local purchasing power, South Africa led the continent, boasting a score of 102.8, signalling strong consumer spending and a stable economy.

Botswana followed in second place with 64.4 points, while Mauritius (43.2) and Libya (42.0) secured third and fourth places, respectively.

Ghana, however, ranked lower in purchasing power, placing 12th out of the 16 countries.

Local purchasing power is a key indicator of economic health, reflecting the overall stability of a nation’s economy.

A higher purchasing power typically suggests increased consumer spending and growth in industries, whereas a lower score may indicate economic challenges.
