Ghana's top cocoa farmers are currently on a significant tour in the United Kingdom (UK), where they recently visited Mars Wrigley, the world's largest chocolate manufacturer.

The visit aimed to provide the farmers with firsthand insights into chocolate manufacturing processes and foster collaboration with industry experts.

During the visit, Ms. Ellen Jacobs, Mars Wrigley's Global Corporate Affairs Manager for cocoa, praised the farmers for their dedication to supplying essential raw materials to the global chocolate industry.

She highlighted Mars Wrigley's commitment to supporting cocoa farmers through fair pricing and innovative initiatives, such as a new Cocoa Swollen Shoot Virus detection kit aimed at safeguarding cocoa trees from disease.

Head of Corporate Affairs at the Ghana Cocoa Board and leader of the delegation, Fiifi Boafo, expressed gratitude for Mars Wrigley's hospitality and emphasised the importance of collaboration in tackling challenges like the Cocoa Swollen Shoot Virus, which threatens cocoa production in Ghana.

He affirmed the industry's commitment to finding sustainable solutions to safeguard cocoa production against the challenges posed by such diseases.

“Ghana's top cocoa farmers and Mars Wrigley symbolizes a shared commitment to advancing cocoa farming practices, enhancing sustainability in the industry, and overcoming critical challenges to ensure the prosperity of cocoa farmers and the longevity of Ghana's cocoa sector,” Boafo said.

Overall, the visit underscores a shared commitment between Ghana's cocoa farmers and Mars Wrigley to enhance sustainability in cocoa farming and overcome critical challenges facing the industry.
