After the government’s botched All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) deal that would have seen Ghana host the event for three years, artiste manager Bulldog has noted that the move was a stupid one.

According to him, it simply did not make sense for the country to dole out taxpayers’ money to foreigners to organise events here.

Ghana had signed a three-year deal with the organisers of AFRIMA which would have seen the country host the event in 2018 and was also scheduled to host the 2019 and 2020 editions.

But there was a huge public outcry when it emerged that the country was going to spend $4.5 million on the three events.

The government subsequently abrogated the deal after the outcry.

Bulldog, known in real life as Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson, speaking in an interview on Showbiz 927 on 3FM said the AFRIMA deal was a stupid one.

He made the comments while reacting to the deal signed between the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and Event Horizon Entertainment Limited for Ghana to host the Afro Nation concert for the next five years.

He said, “It is stupid to collect taxpayers’ money and give to foreigners to do an event for us. We have event organisers here as well so if we want to do an event to encompass Africa [and sell Ghana], event organisers here can do it.”

He commended the government for the Afro Nation deal.

“With Afro Nation, these are private investors and what the government did was smart and I’m sure they’ve learnt from all the noise we made about AFRIMA…,” the artiste manager noted.

Bulldog, who manages Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, was however quick to warn that,”If we hear that they’ve given them money, we go bore.”
