National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah says he is worried for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo wondering if he is safe with the raging controversy about militia groups in the country with the lip service being paid towards their disbandment.

According to him, the posturing of the president in dealing with the matter decisively is entirely different from his utterances observing that he is behaving like a chameleon depending on the occasion.

In his view, it is needless for a legislation to be triggered in order to disband such groups in the country stating that there are already existing laws to combat militia groups wondering how come the President is ignorant about this.

Speaking on Kumasi-based Pure Fm monitored by MyNewsGh.com, he warned that the issue could easily get out of hand if the President refuses to crack the whip and ensure that the activities of militia groups are nib in the bud.

“Do you know what has happened in Burkina Faso? You realized that all of a sudden Burkina Faso has been militarized beyond the capacity of the military where did that come from? It is groups like this that have the leadership that can be penetrated by terror groups. Boko Haram can easily get in contact with these people and give them money. The next thing is to give them an ideological orientation and weapons will follow”, he warned.

Mr. Bernard Mornah reiterated that the safety of the President is at risk with the emergence of groups like De-Eye Group and therefore insists he must rise to the occasion and deal with the situation head-on.

“President Akufo-Addo is not safe how can I be safe? They should stop what they are doing. The president’s posture is different from the way he is acting… he is behaving like a chameleon changing colours depending on the occasion. The last time he was at parliament, he spoke as if someone who was weeping feeling so worried about it to the extent that the President doesn’t even know that there are laws to combat militia and vigilantism in this country and that he is now initiating legislation to deal with it. The Criminal code is sufficient to deal with this terror acts”, he advocated.
