The Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, on Thursday stated that his nomination as the vice presidential candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party is “a call to higher service, a call to sacrifice, and a duty to perform.”

“I view this nomination as part of God’s plan for my life, and I am grateful for His guidance in directing my path. I pray for His ongoing guidance as I move forward. I consider this nomination as a call to higher service, a call to sacrifice, and a duty to perform,” he stated in a message seen by The Business and Financial Times (B&FT).

Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s unanimous acceptance as the party’s running mate by its National Council indicates a united front as the elephant fraternity gears up for the December electoral battle against the opposition National Democratic Congress, led by former president John Dramani Mahama.

The endorsement came after a decisive meeting held on Thursday, underlining the constitutional mandate as per Article 13(3)(1) of the NPP Constitution, which empowers the Party’s presidential candidate, in consultation with the National Council, to nominate a vice-presidential candidate.

Deeply honored and humbled by the news of his nomination, Dr. Opoku Prempeh said he was “privileged and duty-bound” to extend his full support to the party’s flagbearer and current vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as they work together to realize his visionary agenda of propelling Ghana to greater heights.

“The NPP is enriched with numerous astute personalities; therefore, I recognize the significance of my selection and do not take it lightly. I call upon all our members to join hands as we collectively strive to achieve our ambitious goal of transforming Ghana into a prosperous nation,” he stated.
