Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong says he is disappointed in the Akufo-Addo government for failing to disclose the number of jobs it has created across the country. The outspoken MP said, the NPP government in less than two years, has made big strides, particularly in jobs creation but many Ghanaians are not aware of these achievements due to failure on the part of institutions in charge to make the numbers public.
This, he believes has given members of the opposition enough reason to spread propaganda and deceive citizens who are ignorant of government’s achievements at the various sectors of the economy.
According to Mr. Agyapong, COCOBOD alone has employed 76,000 people since the NPP took over power but majority of the populace do not know that these number of jobs has been created.
“Who knows that COCOBOD has taken 76,000 people?” he said.
The Ministry of Education, the legislator added, has also reduced unemployment through the 40,000 jobs it created and that of the Forestry Commission is also unknown.
“Let’s go to the Ministry of Education. They have taken over 40,000 people; teachers and other workers. Who knows about this? Let’s go to Lands and Forestry Commission, who knows the number of people they’ve employed?”
These among others, the MP explained are the reasons he is disappointed in his government because the institutions are not performing their mandates as required of them, thereby making the NPP government unpopular.
“This is why I’m disappointed in NPP. Department by department, agency by agency, ministry by ministry should give us these information and put them out there,” Mr. Agyapong stressed.
“Propaganda is saying things are hard but look at what we’re doing with this economy. It’s not what Okudzeto Ablakwa did by announcing that they’ve created 1million jobs. Today we’ve added 90,000 more. Police, Immigration, Fire Service… what are we doing to ourselves that we don’t let Ghanaians know the good work we’re doing?” he fumed.
Going forward, Mr. Agyapong wants government’s achievements hyped by the various public institutions, through the compilation and publication for Ghanaians to know.
