Managers of National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential hopeful Professor Joshua Alabi are worried about his justification of an amount of $66 million used in purchasing software for Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to help manage contributors’ pension.

Both the SSNIT board and Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) are currently investigating five officials for their alleged involvement in the acquisition of the software, which has created outrage among most people in this country.

But in an interview with Accra based Citi FM, Prof. Alabi, who was a board chairman Social Security and National Insurance Trust, said he does not see anything wrong with it, though he came in after the software had been purchased.

“At the time I took over, the contract answered all the necessary questions and I could not just go about abrogating contracts”.

But sources say his handlers are worried about his justification because of the insensitive perception it creates in the minds of people, especially the pensioners who think he may not be fit to run this country as a president, if he does not find anything wrong with this amount.

“ I think he goofed and it is important he desists from speaking on the matter and allow the investigations to go on,” the source said. “You don’t give people the hope they desire because your pronouncement comes across as irresponsible and not somebody to be trusted with their mandate.”
