Kweku Baako provides plan for way forward in PDS fraud

Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, says the termination of the Power Distribution Services (PDS) concession agreement by the government was a bullet Ghana had to bite.

According to Mr Baako, a national consensus with stakeholders and the Minority as a distinct political party following the cancellation will help to reach a consensus on the way forward.

“A national consensus as to how to deal with it would have been better but the National Democratic Congress has its own attitude which I cannot ask them to stop perhaps the New Patriotic Party would have done the same thing if in opposition,” he said.

Speaking on Accra-based Metro Television, monitored by Adomonline.com, Mr Baako explained he anticipated a cancellation of the PDS deal following the sequence of events and communication as far as the PDS concession was concerned.

“This day comes with a lot of challenges with many looking at the $190m which is even a peanut but we had to bite the bullet the way we did,” he said.

To Mr Baako, it would have been a disaster if the government had accepted the Millennium Challenge Corporation’s proposal to lift the ban on PDS and provide a basis for suspending the concession.
