The Ministry of Information holds a press briefing in Accra to provide further clarifications on hospitality sector openings.

This comes after the Ministry of Tourism issued a statement, Wednesday, to overrule a circular issued by the Ghana Tourism Authority on directives for hospitality sector.

Although President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Sunday, May 10 extended the ban on public gatherings which bars drinking spots and others from operating till end of May, the Authority on Monday, May 11 said drinking bars could operate while observing appropriate social distancing and hygiene protocols.

It also said food chains and restaurants could operate sit-down as well as pick-up and delivery services while observing appropriate social distancing and hygiene protocols.

Two days after the Authority’s statement, the Tourism Ministry issued a statement to overturn the Regulator’s.

Signed by the sector minister Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, the statement said drinking bars remain closed; food chains and restaurants can operate takeout and delivery services only.

The ban on public gathering is part of the stringent measures by the government to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

The Information Ministry at today’s briefing is also expected to provide updates on government’s engagement with stakeholders on potential post restriction measures; and community spread advisory.
