The Central Regional maintenance officer for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has lambasted advisers of President Mahama describing them as nation wreckers over plans by government to privatise the state assert.

Workers of ECG demonstrated at their offices nationwide as they marked this year's Public Service International Day, yesterday.

The demonstration was to protest the planned privatization of the company Government has defended reasons for the privatisation of the ECG saying, it will improve efficiency after persistent public dissatisfaction about the quality of service.

But Seth Binkorang asserted that, if the ECG is privatised, Ghana will be plunged into total darkness for 25 years.

Speaking in an interview with Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the maintenance manager stated further that the privitisation will see an upward adjustment of electricity tariffs by 502 percent, since the current hydro and thermal generation power will be expensive for them to operate.

According to him, there will be job cuts, no rural electrification, increase in commodity prices due to the concession plans.

He added, every worker no only those at the ECG will be sacked if the company is privatisied.

Technical advisers who advised government on the privitisation, he opined are not serious citizens neither do they mean business.

Ghanaians he said should plan for severer job cuts from across all sectors of the economy, thus every well meaning citizen should resist plans by the state to go on this tangent.

The so-called inefficiency claims by government at the ECG he indicated is the fault of government for employing incompetent persons to man the ECG.

Political influence he decried is too much-affecting the smooth operation at the ECG.

He was of the opinion that, it will be far better if Ghanaian individual private persons are allowed to rather invest in the ECG than foreigners.
